WEEK 0: EXECUTION

remaining students: 41
Wow. Weekends sure are wild.
Whatever time everyone wakes up this Sunday morning, they'll see a message on their phones, much like the previous day. This one states:
- The expulsion of Kaoruko Hanayagi will take place at the Athletics Field at 1PM.
When the time comes, there will be no mysterious compulsion to head over there. It seems like this event isn't a mandatory one to attend. Everyone who does make their way to the stadium will see that the field has changed into something, uh, a little different, with some music playing in the background. No one is allowed to walk onto the field itself, except for Kaoruko who is already standing in the center, and everyone will have to immediately get onto the stands to take a seat.
Once it hits 1PM, a voice will ring out from some kind of speaker system.
- "A challenger approaches! Will Otome Yanagiya please come to the field?"
Otome will immediately start walking, regardless if she wants to or not. A path will allow her to get there safely. No one else will be able to follow her; while there isn't a physical barrier stopping them, they'll find that they simply cannot move their feet to step onto the same path.
EXECUTION

kaoruko blinks, looking around in confusion before her gaze settles on otome. her expression is uncertain, and she opens her mouth to speak a few times before settling on a simple, ]
So... sorry. You can make this quick. [ as she says this, she bends down to pick something from the ground. ] I didn't think this would involve another person.
[ her grip tightens on the handle, and then she just. blinks. ]
no subject
Absolutely not. This is far too cruel and I'm not just going to--
[ But both hands wrap around the bat handle as though yes, whether she wants to or not, she is gonna. ]
no subject
[ she gets cut off when the ground they're on starts to shake before slowly moving downwards. kaoruko startles, and she goes to glance down over the edge-- there's nothing down there, no floor or water or anything, just void. she looks up to see more platforms slowly start to move downwards.
hm. ]
Otome-han! Go up!
[ she says this, but at the same time she's going to very suddenly swing the bat at her. ]
Oh...
no subject
[ She breaks off just as quickly, glancing down as things move and not necessarily in the direction she could have hoped.
And it clicks, very quickly, just how bad this is, right at the moment Kaoruko swings at her. Luckily(?), she swings her bat enough to parry the strike as best as one can with a baseball bat. She makes to leap onto the next platform, already shivering, but not before she swings the bat lower at Kaoruko's legs. ]
I'm sorry, I can't stop it--!!
no subject
I-it's fine. I'll just... stay here...?
[ except no, apparently not, because she's clumsily getting up to her feet to also get onto a platform. not the same one as otome, but at least it's close enough that either of them could close the distance of they jumped. ]
They could have at least given us jackets! Literally the least they could have done!!
no subject
I realize this is a terrible time for advice, but try not to put too much weight on your ankle. We can ice it later, if need be, but--
[ Body, please don't jump. Please don't jump. She fights it as best she can, entire body tensed even against the violent shivering, but Kaoruko is right there on the other platform and she's worried that if she jumps, it's going to make her injury worse so.
Well, she loses the fight regardless, and she takes a flying leap onto the platform, skidding a little on the snow piled there but more importantly, she's going in for a second swing. ]
Please just stay alive!!
[ It's a desperate plea. Also maybe kind of a pointless one, considering the circumstances, but still. ]
no subject
[ she knows that she has to lose this, honestly. kaoruko isn't naive enough to think any outcome where otome isn't the winner is the ideal one. but she's still hoping, even despite everything that's happen, they can at least both walk out of it okay.
the other thing about kaoruko is-- well. she does know how fight. she didn't choose that pole they found in trial for nothing, and while this bat really isn't anything like a naginata, she's at least very used to swinging a weapon at someone. so she'll move to block that blow and then spin around, so she can very quickly swing her own bat back at otome.
(the fact that she winces right after and staggers for a brief second probably doesn't help her though.) ]
no subject
Just one quick breath in, one quick breath out, before she lunges forward to try and force her back. And the platforms tremble and start moving again. ]
no subject
[ it's squeaked out at first, the second word coming out a little panicked as she moves away and-- ah yes. they're moving again.
kaoruko gives herself a second to rub at her arm with one hand, trying to fight off the cold. it does nothing, which means the only thing left to do is move. she deserts otome to try to climb onto another platform, trying to use her bat for leverage. ]
Careful, these are kind of high.
[ she is too short for this ]
no subject
In her haste to get to her feet though, though, she slips because this motherfucker is covered in ice and when she lands on her side, the bat escapes her grip, rolling to the edge of the platform. ]
... This has to end at some point... [ Ideally before they freeze or fall to their deaths or beat each other to death. ]
no subject
[ she glances over at the bleachers, quickly looking over the faces that are in the stands. only for a second, before she goes running to where otome is. each step makes her ankle hurts worse, and she thinks that the ice otome said they can later sounds nice...
she reaches where otome is, and tries to smash the bat down onto her head. ]
no subject
... mostly with the platform; it's a glancing blow to her temple as Otome rolls just in time, lashing out with one leg as hard as possible to send Kaoruko back and away from her. If it will work, she doesn't know. She's not close enough to the bat and by now, her fingers feel far too numb to even be able to hold it.
Also she's bleeding from the head now but it's fine. ]
no subject
but it does make her move back, stumbling. of course, the platform starts to move again before either of them really got settled onto this one. it's fine.
kaoruko nervously looks at the audience again then back to otome. ]
Pick up the bat! Just-- hit me! Otome-han, get to your feet and hit me!
[ kaoruko isn't really sure how much weight she'll be able to keep putting on her leg at this point, but she doesn't want to test it out for too long. ]
no subject
I-- [ She doesn't want to. She really doesn't want to, but she slowly pushes herself to her feet, nearly loses her balance again as the platform shifts--
And she leaves the bat where it is, probably the only choice she gets to make as she throws herself at the next platform instead. Her fingers slip, but she gets a better grip as she hauls herself up. ]
no subject
[ but there's an idea.
so she will just go after otome, full on limping at this point, as she goes to climb onto the same platform that she did. it's a little hard to manage since she's still holding onto her bat, but kaoruko will try to pull herself up anyway. ]
Hurry up...
no subject
[ If only this stupid compulsion would let her follow through on that, help her up or something. Instead, she tries to bring her foot down on Kaoruko's fingers before she can pull herself up fully, it's very "Long live the king" only they're not lions. ]
no subject
in fact, kaoruko was hoping it would be the one otome would make. she yelps in pain, and her grip on the bat loosens as it goes tumbling down to the abyss. kaoruko's gaze follows it for a few seconds, trying to gauge just how far of a drop it actually is. ]
O... Otome-han! Thanks, you were really nice y-yesterday! Even if not everyone here is as kind as you, I... hope that they'll be.
[ her words start to jumble together in the end as she talks quickly, getting harder to understand as she tries to blurt it out so that otome can hear.
it's okay. it's okay? she thinks this to herself, and then looks back down. ]
... sorry. Do your best!
[ she moves her free hand to grip onto otome's ankle, so that she can dig her nails into the skin as hard as possible. it's just so that she can get her other hand free and, instead of holding onto the platform again, she falls.
there's a second where, stupidly, she hopes that a hand will catch her. instead, just down she goes, and a distant ding! can be heard.
kaoruko hanayagi is dead. ]

GAME!
[Now that the match has been decided, a few things happen. The field returns to normal, the background music stops, and everyone will find that they now have free movement once more. Kaoruko's body disappears, along with any of her belongings—on her or in her dorm—that weren't explicitly given away beforehand, as do Hiyori's.
Furthermore, should anyone try to email the Dorm Heads today, they will find that their message goes through.]

In the middle of the field now.
Looking completely numb before she just sort of staggers and falls to her knees. ]
