A buzzing alarm wakes you bright and early. You blink your eyes blearily, greeted by the sun's rays peeking through the blinds of a window. It's 7 AM, and it feels like you definitely went to bed way too late last night. Oh well, up and at 'em! Time to start your day! Except...

...this place looks unfamiliar. You're in a room with other people who are also waking up. Outside of the window is a large, sprawling school campus touched by the start of warm autumn colors. In the bathroom is--wow, another door through which are two more confused people in a similar room. Suite mates! In addition, if you go exploring within your dorm, you may find special access to a certain room. Though as you wander about, make sure you take a glance at the rules that are posted at each building.

Welcome to Wiwaldi Academy!

Outside on campus, the air is crisp. In the morning, your feet will crunch over a light frost and fallen leaves. The rest of the day is mild, but sweater and jackets may be needed in the evening and during the night. The sky is bright blue and empty except for an occasional stray cirrus cloud or two. It seems like fall is on the horizon.

Thank you for joining us at the beautiful campus of Wiwaldi Academy! All classes officially begin on Monday. Students are encouraged to enjoy leisure time on campus this weekend. Please be mindful as new additions to the campus are in construction, and these are off-limits to students until completion.

The icon in the top right corner corresponds to your dorm: Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter. Even though you are all sorted by a particular dorm, please don't hesitate to meet and mingle with one another! You all will have plenty of opportunity to do so on Saturday during the Sundae Orientation. An ice cream bar will be on the campus lawn between the dormitory buildings from 12PM onward, and everyone is invited to come meet and mingle while playing introductory games.

Don't forget to think about your EXTRA CREDIT! It's a chance for you to get ahead on your work. You wouldn't want anyone else stealing your extra credit for themselves, so keep all extra credit assignments under lock and key.

anyway, the comment gets an easy grin out of ichiro, who is sitting somewhat nearby, eating his chocolate ice cream! he gives a wave with his spoon. ]

We can totally do that. It does feel a little weird to play games, right? I'm Ichiro. I like your outfit, it's seriously cool.

[ she comes a little closer so they can eat ice cream together. and nods! it's very weird!! ]

I'm Luxanna Crownguard. A pleasure... [ but she looks down at her outfit. hm... it's pretty generic for a soldier, as far as she's concerned? ] Is it? It's a little plain, compared to some uniforms I've seen.

You think? Man, not a lot of people dress like that where I'm from. What's it a uniform for?

Are you from... [ hm... no weapons or armor...? so...????? ] A farmland, perhaps?

Hah - no, no, definitely not. I'm from Ikebukuro. It's a division of Tokyo, biggest city in Japan.

[ ....... ] But, I'm guessing you've probably not heard of it, right? This place's got people from all over the place in it, like some sort of isekai.

[ she just nods, slowly. what the fuck are you saying. ]

You're right. I've never heard of those regions. Or... "Isekai"?

...Oh, uh. Let me back up.

[ a little sheepishly. ] It's a story where someone from a different universe gets put into another universe. Like - if your world is a place where "Illuminators" exists, mine definitely isn't, unless you're talking about lights.

But how does that happen? Who moves us from one universe to another? Do the stories say how to get home? Is there a reason people are brought to such places?

[ she has questions! ]

Depends on the story, I guess. Usually it's some magic force that only the hero of the story can fix. The best ones are the ones where the hero goes on a huge journey as a part of their isekai and learns the culture and lay of the land, and grows along the way.

[ ichiro likes a good story, not a waifu bait isekai, it's true. ]

And sometimes there's no reason - sometimes it's just luck, good or bad. [ a beat, and he grimaces. ] I guess that could be here, too. What a weird situation.

I haven't read any stories about other worlds, but I do like to read books about travel and adventure. I'd like to read one like that, someday.

[ but, hmm. ]

... But it isn't very illuminating regarding our situation, then, is it?

It is not illuminating at all. Guess you'd be the expert, too, with a job like that, right?

[ that's a little jokingly, because you gotta cope with this kind of weird kidnapping somehow. ] If there's a library around - there's gotta be, right? It's a school - I'll rec you a book or two. Maybe if there's something you've read you'd like, we could trade.

I guess... that letter said 'class' is starting on Monday. You really think this is some kind of school?

[ oh, she brightens at that! how nice. ]

Do you think that they'll have books that either of us are familiar with?

[ as for that last question, hm. ]

I'm... still not sure what this place is. It seems it's designed to look like a school, at least.
