A buzzing alarm wakes you bright and early. You blink your eyes blearily, greeted by the sun's rays peeking through the blinds of a window. It's 7 AM, and it feels like you definitely went to bed way too late last night. Oh well, up and at 'em! Time to start your day! Except...

...this place looks unfamiliar. You're in a room with other people who are also waking up. Outside of the window is a large, sprawling school campus touched by the start of warm autumn colors. In the bathroom is--wow, another door through which are two more confused people in a similar room. Suite mates! In addition, if you go exploring within your dorm, you may find special access to a certain room. Though as you wander about, make sure you take a glance at the rules that are posted at each building.

Welcome to Wiwaldi Academy!

Outside on campus, the air is crisp. In the morning, your feet will crunch over a light frost and fallen leaves. The rest of the day is mild, but sweater and jackets may be needed in the evening and during the night. The sky is bright blue and empty except for an occasional stray cirrus cloud or two. It seems like fall is on the horizon.

In each room, students will find their own laptops with a welcome screen:

Thank you for joining us at the beautiful campus of Wiwaldi Academy! All classes officially begin on Monday. Students are encouraged to enjoy leisure time on campus this weekend. Please be mindful as new additions to the campus are in construction, and these are off-limits to students until completion.

The icon in the top right corner corresponds to your dorm: Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter. Even though you are all sorted by a particular dorm, please don't hesitate to meet and mingle with one another! You all will have plenty of opportunity to do so on Saturday during the Sundae Orientation. An ice cream bar will be on the campus lawn between the dormitory buildings from 12PM onward, and everyone is invited to come meet and mingle while playing introductory games.

Don't forget to think about your EXTRA CREDIT! It's a chance for you to get ahead on your work. You wouldn't want anyone else stealing your extra credit for themselves, so keep all extra credit assignments under lock and key.

Near their desk is a backpack filled with the following:

- an acceptance letter (the envelope is clickable)
- school supplies (notebook, pen, highlighter, binder)
- a framed photograph of a man and his dog
- a smartphone
- a school jacket
- a personalized mug
- a little pack of konpeito
- a cashmere scarf
- one (1) voucher

On their smartphone, they'll find an email with the subject Extra Credit Assignment. The contents of the email provide the details of said assignment.

If you have any questions, you may use the Discord #questions-for-mods channel, or DM your mods (Dana, Francy, Anna, and Jan) directly. If you don't have all of us added, just let one of us know, and we'll create the mod DM for you.

A friendly reminder is that IC Profiles are not ICly unlocked yet. Please also stay tuned for Something Else on Sunday at 12 PM / 3 PM EST.

Our schedules aren't exactly bursting, so whenever you like is fine.

[ she nods! ]

As far as I understand it, that's right.

Awesome! Let's go now! [and he nyooms off, running towards the nearest food place that's not the cafeteria]

[ she is once again left going OKAY?????? and trailing after him. she'll catch up. ]

[while running, he checks over his shoulder a few times to make sure she's following him and he's not gonna look dumb arriving by himself

he stops in front of the "Bakery" and waits for her to catch up]

I haven't been in this one yet, but I bet they've got nice breads and stuff!

[ a nyoomy boy... it's good to be energetic! ]

They had better. If I've been kidnapped to somewhere without good food, that will be the last straw.

The room I woke up in had a buncha tasty muffins and cookies and things, so it's already better than the last weird fake place I got trapped in. [he gives a thumbs up]

We were left with welcome-basket treats as well.

... This has happened to you before? [ she's just setting aside the 'fake' part for now. ]

Huh? Oh, yeah, it was like a hotel but all they had was beds and stuff.

Anyway, if it's the same sorta thing just gotta wait until something happens. [he goes into the "Bakery" and sees a sign proudly proclaiming the special cake with ice cream inside] Oh, hell yeah! Hey! Two ice cream cakes!

... I hope you don't expect me to help you that much with those.

[ she assumes that's. two cakes for two people? that's too many??? ]

A-at any rate... You said that place was... Fake?

(yo same though)

[he furrows his brow, thinking about it] I think it was like the Forever Devil or whatever.

[he....seems to think that's enough explanation?? he's looking over the counter and repeating "Hey! Hey! Two ice cream cakes!!"]

I see...

[ ........... she doesn't think she'll get more out of him even if she asks, so. she will just wait with him for his cakes. ]

[the cakes do eventually come, after some shenanigans, but there's five of them, all of different shapes and cake/ice cream ratios]

Sweet, extra cakes!

[he takes them over to a table and sits down, spoon in hand and eyes excited]

So what's your deal? What do you do for fun if you don't have phones and stuff?

[illuminance]

Please don't try to eat that much. You'll make yourself ill.

I... Well, I enjoy traveling, I suppose?

[sawboned]

[it's too late he's chowing down]

Traveling, huh? So you got lots of money?

[ she nods, because she can't think of a way to say 'yes' that doesn't sound boastful? and uhh, she knows that's not great. ]

Wow, so you probably eat fancy chow all the time! That must be cool.

Your dad like a king or a spy or something?

[illuminance]

Expensive food doesn't do well on the road, so I do end up eating a lot of travel rations instead.

[ not as exciting... but she's still used to finer dining, too. ]

My family serves the... [ a slight pause. ] Royal family. We always have.

[sawboned]

Royal family? [he...doesn't look like he understands what that is]

You mentioned a king, so you must be familiar with the idea of royalty? That's the king's family.

We serve - his son, now. The prince.

[sawboned]

So what kinda stuff do you do for this prince? Is your family like in debt to them?

[illuminance]

We're in debt to him in the sense that he's the lord of our flourishing kingdom, I suppose?

We obey his commands. Enact his laws, protect his lands and people. Head the organizations he supports. Things of that nature.

[sawboned]

[Denji nods along, his mouth stuffed full of ice cream cake, his eyes more or less lacking in understanding]

So is it more like a paperwork thing or a fighting thing?

[illuminance]

[ lux cannot bring herself to eat any of these cakes, because watching him eat them is very unappetizing. but she is here for moral support. ]

Far more fighting than paperwork.

[oh yeah, whatever it was before, the entire plate is just a pile of gray sludge at this point—even Denji's getting kinda full]
