A buzzing alarm wakes you bright and early. You blink your eyes blearily, greeted by the sun's rays peeking through the blinds of a window. It's 7 AM, and it feels like you definitely went to bed way too late last night. Oh well, up and at 'em! Time to start your day! Except...

...this place looks unfamiliar. You're in a room with other people who are also waking up. Outside of the window is a large, sprawling school campus touched by the start of warm autumn colors. In the bathroom is--wow, another door through which are two more confused people in a similar room. Suite mates! In addition, if you go exploring within your dorm, you may find special access to a certain room. Though as you wander about, make sure you take a glance at the rules that are posted at each building.

Welcome to Wiwaldi Academy!

Outside on campus, the air is crisp. In the morning, your feet will crunch over a light frost and fallen leaves. The rest of the day is mild, but sweater and jackets may be needed in the evening and during the night. The sky is bright blue and empty except for an occasional stray cirrus cloud or two. It seems like fall is on the horizon.

In each room, students will find their own laptops with a welcome screen:

Thank you for joining us at the beautiful campus of Wiwaldi Academy! All classes officially begin on Monday. Students are encouraged to enjoy leisure time on campus this weekend. Please be mindful as new additions to the campus are in construction, and these are off-limits to students until completion.

The icon in the top right corner corresponds to your dorm: Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter. Even though you are all sorted by a particular dorm, please don't hesitate to meet and mingle with one another! You all will have plenty of opportunity to do so on Saturday during the Sundae Orientation. An ice cream bar will be on the campus lawn between the dormitory buildings from 12PM onward, and everyone is invited to come meet and mingle while playing introductory games.

Don't forget to think about your EXTRA CREDIT! It's a chance for you to get ahead on your work. You wouldn't want anyone else stealing your extra credit for themselves, so keep all extra credit assignments under lock and key.

Near their desk is a backpack filled with the following:

- an acceptance letter (the envelope is clickable)
- school supplies (notebook, pen, highlighter, binder)
- a framed photograph of a man and his dog
- a smartphone
- a school jacket
- a personalized mug
- a little pack of konpeito
- a cashmere scarf
- one (1) voucher

On their smartphone, they'll find an email with the subject Extra Credit Assignment. The contents of the email provide the details of said assignment.

If you have any questions, you may use the Discord #questions-for-mods channel, or DM your mods (Dana, Francy, Anna, and Jan) directly. If you don't have all of us added, just let one of us know, and we'll create the mod DM for you.

[he realizes for the first time that the phones can't actually call and so opens the text window and sends himself the peach and eggplant emojis with a dumb grin on his face]

[ she. pokes at her phone a little bit, but whenever she hits an icon and it opens something she just looks increasingly confused. ]

We don't have anything like this, where I'm from.

Where's that? Like North Korea or something? [Denji opens his message app and sends her a poo emoji, then in a separate message a bunch of poo emojis]

[ ????? the message pops up and she doesn't really understand what she is looking at. terrible. ]

Demacia. I've never heard of North Korea.

Demacia? That in Europe or somewhere? [he flicks and taps through his phone some more and shrugs]

Anyway, looks like these phones can't even make phone calls, so kinda a waste of a conversation. Sorry.

Weird we all got the same ones, and it's different to the one Miss Makima gave me. But you just touch stuff and you can open apps and write messages to people.

Oh, it's got a camera though so it's not totally broken! Nice. [he holds it up to show her, the screen a tiny window to what's behind the phone]

I'm not familiar with Europe, either.

It can do all these things, but it's... Really not magic?

Nah, it was just invented by some smart people and costs a lot of money, but I got all mine for free. [he proudly flashes a peace sign]

You've, like, taken a photo before though, right? You just press this button, it's super easy. [he snaps a photo of the grounds around them and the screen is now frozen, showing it]

Then should I count myself lucky for receiving one for free as well?

[ .... she startles when the screen freezes. wh. little mirror go still???? ]

Hell yeah, these things are like at least 40,000 yen! There's all kinds of other free stuff in this backpack, too.

[he sees her puzzling at the screen and puts it back to the camera mode]

Look, you can take pictures with people and stuff, too. [and he snaps a selfie with her, sticking his tongue out and making a dumb face]

Anyway, that concludes Denji's Very Smart Class On Using Your Free Phone! School's out forever! [he stands up and stretches, yawning]

You don't gotta thank me. Unless you wanna buy me some lunch. [he grins, a smile full of mischief and slightly pointy teeth]

I think the food here is free, but I'm happy to get a meal together if you'd like, Denji.

[then, a beat, and he looks startled]

Did you say the food's free everywhere??

Our schedules aren't exactly bursting, so whenever you like is fine.

Awesome! Let's go now! [and he nyooms off, running towards the nearest food place that's not the cafeteria]

[ she is once again left going OKAY?????? and trailing after him. she'll catch up. ]

[while running, he checks over his shoulder a few times to make sure she's following him and he's not gonna look dumb arriving by himself

he stops in front of the "Bakery" and waits for her to catch up]

I haven't been in this one yet, but I bet they've got nice breads and stuff!

The room I woke up in had a buncha tasty muffins and cookies and things, so it's already better than the last weird fake place I got trapped in. [he gives a thumbs up]

We were left with welcome-basket treats as well.

Huh? Oh, yeah, it was like a hotel but all they had was beds and stuff.
