WEEK 3: TRIAL

week three: trial

victims:

Good thing yesterday was just a dream, huh?

Just kidding. Everyone will wake up to a text on their phone that has only a simple message:

Go to the gymnasium at 12 PM. Attendance is mandatory.

Everyone is free to go to the designated spot on their own, but once it hits 11:55, any stragglers will feel compelled to go and will join the others at the gym. As soon as every student is inside, the doors will lock behind them.

All of the bleachers are out, so students are free to sit wherever they like. At the very front of the gym is a gathering of a few items, one being a large desk where two of the Dorm Heads are present. When the clock hits noon, the scoreboard turns on, starting a countdown of nine hours.

From where she's seated, Sally speaks.

"You have nine hours again. It's... you'll be able to do it. Work hard."

Better get to it. That scoreboard is ticking.

Hello everyone and welcome to our fourth trial! the next nine hours, the characters are expected to discuss among themselves, ask questions, examine the bodies of the victims, look over the evidence found yesterday, and revisit locations as needed in order to find the culprit(s). There'll be a one hour break from 5-6 PM EST, where no mod tags will occur.

Before the trial is over, please remember to place your character's vote over on the voting page. Voting will close at 9 PM EST, and will serve as our activity check for the week, so please be sure you get your vote in before it ends unless you have contacted us previously.

If you have any questions at any time, please let us know by pinging us on Discord!

[ ... haa. the way he says it implies he's probably bounced this theory around before, but is still unhappy to say it. ]

And Rupert had to do it twice. Maybe the same could be said of the person who killed Sieghart.

I asked Rupert why he did it twice in a row and he couldn't tell me. It's possible that they really do have to do a repeat kill to fulfill whatever obligation they're stuck with or whatever.

[that would...not be great...but still.]

Yeah. He couldn't tell us, either - and he answered a lot of questions for us. He was totally cooperative.

[ he just looks sad, now :'( ]

That raises the question then...why? Why twice? And how are they picking the people who have to kill?

[ shakes his head... ]

I don't know. We don't even know if it stops at two, if that is true, either - that was just when we caught Rupert. [ he REALLY doesnt wanna think about that! boy howdy!!! ]

But I think it does come back to the whole - [ pausing to scowl harder, now, almost spitting out the phrase. ] the drama of it all.

Especially if we're now thinking Caiman was manipulated by somebody to act. It makes sense. He's not likely to die in a fight that easily, why not use him as a shield?

[he sounds pretty agitated about that, actually.]

That's going to be our next thing. Figuring out if he was controlled or if he acted on his own.

Yeah.

[ .... ]

I wonder if you can buy the powers we get out of coupons with vouchers. But - oh. The effect lasts for two days, too, doesn't it? So Caiman might still be under the effect? It's Saturday.
goalsides: (That's the impression that I get)

[personal profile] goalsides 2021-07-03 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
What, buying mind control? It's possible. If he's still under the effect then we need to figure out a way to work around it to figure out what happened.

If I remember correctly, you can buy powers similar to what we had for coupons for about... Eight? You can maybe haggle it down to six.

But the mind-altering power can be resisted if the target would not be willing to do what you're commanding them to do, but it could be used in a different way.

Then in order to force someone to murder, either they would have to be willing on some level, or-- you might have to get creative. I have to wonder if it's possible to alter someone's mind to think another person is their enemy, or otherwise some kind of threat, to push them into it.

...it is sometimes possible to spend more to make powers stronger, too, so we may want to ask if it's possible to make it harder to resist if this is something we're pursuing.

[ A nod. ]

If someone's willing to kill an enemy, or for a purpose, then you could? Maybe alter their mind to see someone else as their enemy...

Since two dorm heads are here, we can get a quote if that's something that's possible.

What's the likelihood then that someone figured out a way to change the command to make Caiman follow orders?
